Next Steps

Beekeeping Part Two: Next Steps to Beeing a Bee Master

Beekeeping Part Two: Next Steps to Beeing a Bee Master, continues your training in practical beekeeping. We assume that you have some experience with beekeeping, or have taken one or more of the beginning beekeeping courses offered in the Calgary, Alberta, area. The workshops and lectures are taught to a maximum of 22 people at a time so individual issues, questions, and concerns can be expressed and answered.

Next Steps single-day courses, 9am-4pm, focus on single topics. These classes are open for registration now:

May 26 (Sunday). Bees Eat Money. Yes, they do. But it takes money to make honey and the better you manage your beekeeping budget, the better you and your bees will do. We cover startup costs, expansion, marketing & labeling, outyards, case studies, business structures, cash-flow, employees and more. And we answer the timeless question: How much money do the big commercial beekeepers really make? You may be surprised. Email Ron to sign up.

June 9, 2024 (Sunday). Native Bees, Honey Bees, Native Bees. What you need to know to help native bees. Practical tips on keeping honey bees alongside native bees in Calgary. Native bee nest boxes, bee hotels, native flowers and seeds. Ron Miksha, Linda Symmes and special guest presenter Janet Melrose, ‘Calgary’s Cottage Gardener’. Email Ron to sign up.

June 15, 2024 (Saturday). Sweet as Honey. There’s nothing as sweet, especially if it’s your own. We cover removing, processing, showing, judging, marketing, creamed honey, granulation prevention, food inspection regulations, and cooking. Ron Miksha, Linda Symmes and special guest presenter Kate Symes, a Chef Instructor at SAIT. Email Ron to sign up.

Next Steps in Beekeeping courses are appropriate for all beekeepers, but are particularly recommended for beekeepers with at least a full year of beekeeping experience.
